Cinco De Mayo

Today is Cinco De Mayo!  Happy Independence Day Mexico!  They have the May 5th which is really similar to our July 4th.  How awesome!  Well, not exactly.

Contrary to popular belief in America, mostly pushed by bars like Hallmark creates holidays, Cinco De Mayo isn’t about Mexico’s independence.  It is in reference to a short battle that was an unlikely win but ultimately they lost the same battle a year later.  Only the people in the town of Puebla may celebrate it but it isn’t a federal holiday.

So twice today I have stretched the boundaries of this being an Oregon focused site, but just like the 10am post about Gluten Free beer I bring it back around to remind you that almost every single bar you might want to go to will have some kind of beer special, hopefully it’s an Oregon beer as well as the typical Tecate and Dos Equis.

And beyond that there should fun to had at Tom McCall Waterfront with carnival rides and shows.  Go out and have some fun just don’t call it Mexico’s July 4th.

Here is a cool video I found at PDXPipeline check them out.
