G Joy Saké

by Mike on June 28, 2010

Saké is a sneaky drink. It somehow hides the alcohol taste until after it hits your liver and brain.  I have heard more stories about Sake getting the best of someone than anything other type of drink.

From Saké One’s Website:

It’s one thing to import fine sake from Japan, which we have done for more than 15 years and will continue to do with great pride. But, it is a whole other commitment to set up a Kura (sake brewery) and focus on crafting the finest sake made in America. From our home in Oregon, we brew premium Junmai Ginjo styles in a range of distinct sake profiles that can be found across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. You can, of course, also order here on our website as long as we can ship to your state. Please explore and learn more about sake and your Oregon craft brewer. Kanpai!

G Joy Saké

STYLE - Junmai Ginjo Genshu: Made with only rice, water, yeast and koji with the rice milled to 60% of its original size. Aged ten months for extra body and depth of flavor.  A hand crafted, special blend of three superior sakés selected by our tasting panel and blended to their specifications.

TASTING NOTES - Whether you are a saké purist or a looking for an incredible saké experience to set a standard for saké exploration this is the one for you. Full fruity nose with hints of spice give way to rich, creamy layers of ripe melon flavors with hints of pear and plum followed by a long, lingering tropical spice finish. A truly special Junmai Ginjo Genshu Saké.

PAIRING NOTES - ”G” goes wonderfully with a wide range of Japanese cuisine including sushi and tempura but shift your perspective and think world cuisine, pacific fusion or even South American. Set a glass next to rosemary crusted lamb, grilled artichoke hearts and a selection of rich cheeses. Or, pair it up with chipotle spiced ribs, lime and chili black beans and tomato rice. “G” goes well around the world.

ALCOHOL CONTENT - 18%

Want to taste some of their sake? Well you’re in luck.  They have a tasting room in Forest Grove.

Kura Flight: Includes four Oregon craft saké from Momokawa, Moonstone and G.  $3.00

Toji Flight: Includes the Kura flight plus to additional reserve saké from either our club specialty bottlings or our select imports. $5.00

Saké Shock: Saké is not just for sushi any more. This flight offers 5 wild and wonderful food and saké pairings that will forever change your perception what to eat when drinking saké. $10.00

11:00 am to 5:00 pm, seven days a week.

Crater Lake Soda

by Mike on June 25, 2010

Crater Lake Soda is made with pure cane sugar, as opposed to the high-fructose corn syrup that many of their competitors use.  They don’t use additives such as caffeine or foam enhancers. Foam enhancers are present in some soda products, especially root beers and cream sodas, to promote a stable head for visual appeal. Crater Lake Soda varieties are all lightly carbonated for a full, crisp taste. They happily brew their sodas the old-fashioned way to meet consumer demand for healthier products and a true gourmet soda. Crater Lake Soda varieties are also Kosher and gluten-free.

I found them while checking out the web site for The Tigard Balloon Festival which they are proudly sponsoring.  This is another case of something that is in many places but somehow has escaped my attention; and I love Cream Soda. Here are some places that you can purchase their sodas.

Or check them out at the Tigard Balloon Festival this weekend.

From their site:

We’re proud of our company history, which started when a recipe for homemade root beer was created by the Gouverneur family of Southern Indiana. The youngest of four children, Curt Gouverneur took a particular interest in helping to craft homemade sodas – paying close attention to the quality ingredients needed to make a truly gourmet soda.

Curt worked to create three additional varieties – orange cream, vanilla cream and lemon lime bitter – and joined Ocean Mist Sales & Marketing to make his dream of brewing gourmet sodas a reality. Ocean Mist Sales & Marketing is affiliated with the Yoshida Group of companies. Until recently we have only offered our sodas in kegs, but as a result of this affiliation, we are now able to offer the same great product in retail stores.

We have always used premium ingredients, and will never compromise the quality of ourtruly gourmet sodas. Every drop of Crater Lake Soda is brewed and bottled in beautiful Portland, Oregon, and available in stores throughout the Pacific Northwest. We recommend you enjoy these classic American sodas served chilled, with great company!

Viso

by Mike on June 17, 2010

Besides Coffee, Wine, and Beer, Pouregon also celebrates beverages made in Oregon. This is one of those.

I heard Rick Emerson profess his love Viso daily on his radio show for years.  I learned through Rick’s show just how fervent the fans were for Viso’s vitamin-packed energy drinks.

VISO was founded in Portland, Oregon in 2001. Our mission at VISO has always been to provide consumers with the best tasting and most nutritious beverages on the market. VISO beverages are primarily a vitamin, mineral, and electrolyte delivery system, and are formatted in Energy, Organic, and Low Cal options. VISO Beverages now comfortably partake in the Vitamin/Mineral, Energy, and Organic Juice Beverage segments, offering customers a unique perspective on modern beverage architecture.

Viso has grown since 2001.  People would often call into the show just to say where they found Viso in the wilds of convenient stores; Viso Spotters you could say.  Callers would tell how they bought a case, how many were left, and that others better hurry before it was gone.  Are those fans or what?

Our beverages are now available in 16 oz, environmentally friendly cans, and the beverages we design and produce are light years ahead of anything else available. No other beverages can compete with the Organically fruity flavors and great taste of VISO! We are currently available in the NW, but we will be expanding nationwide in the next three years with our constantly evolving product line.

Want to know where to buy on of the seven flavors of the extremely popular drink?  Since just a few years ago where people would announce on a radio show where they found Viso, now Viso has a map of all of the places you can find it.  Ahh, the wonders of technology, click here.

Keep up on all things Viso via Twitter and Facebook.
