Breakside Brewpub

by Mike on July 20, 2010

I just came upon the Breakside Brewery this weekend. I didn’t have a chance to stop by but I wanted to promote a new venture, especially when it already has 16 reviews on Yelp in the matter of two months.

Tammy E. - “I can’t find any reason to not give this place 5 stars, so I went for it!

Drew D. - “Overall, it was delicious, fast, and friendly and we enjoyed everything.  If it wasn’t just a touch chilly for the parents we would have eaten at the lovely artsy wood benches outside.”

Laura D. – “So I was looking for a new place to get a beer while sitting outside.  I typed in “good beer” and my zip code.  This came up and I am in love.  What a great addition to the neighborhood!”

Cindy A. – “LOVE this new brewery! Diverse line-up of taps, with their own brews coming soon.”

Breakside Brewery is the invention of Scott Lawrence and Tony Petraglia. Some mutual friends introduced the two after learning they both had a desire to leave their corporate jobs in order to pursue their dream of opening a brew pub. With limited knowledge, they jumped in head first and committed their minimal financial resources and made it happen.

From Oregonlive.com – “I fell in love with the space,” Lawrence said, “because of the great light, the high ceilings and the skylight, but I really liked the location because this is an area  that needs a brewpub. Woodlawn neighborhood is in the biggest swath of Portland without a brewpub nearby — the Mash Tun is probably 25 blocks away, and Amnesia is further.”

They serve beer, wine, and what sounds like a very delicious menu.  They will soon serve their own beer but they still have an ample beer list that changes.  On Sunday they updated their taplist and posted on Twitter: “Wow, had to update the taps again. Returning: Summer Solstice, 20″ Brown, 60 min IPA, New: Trippel from New Belgium! Delish!”

ANNUAL NW SPIRITS AND MIXOLOGY SHOW
This July, Get an Insider’s Look at the Beverage and Liquor Industry-
Complete with Tastes and Sips of the Latest Trends

Portland, Oregon (26, June 2010)- The NW Spirits and Mixology Show is bringing the Portland public an exclusive insider’s look at the latest trends to follow in the beverage and liquor industry- complete with tasty samples and live mixology demonstrations.

From 4:00pm-6:00pm on Monday, July 26th this industry-only event will open its doors to the public, kicking off the 2010 Innovations and Experimentations LIVE Mixology Demonstrations. These tasty demos will feature some of the Northwest’s best mix-masters sharing several innovations that have the beverage industry at the top of its game.

This is a hands-on event, so there will be plenty of sampling and new items to try, from the well- recognized brands to industry secrets.

“With Oregon becoming world-renowned for our micro-distilleries, and mixologists coming from all over the country to be on the cutting edge of culinary and cocktail culture, this is the right time to be hosting a premier Spirits and Mixology Show in one of the hippest cities in the country.” Said Co-Producer and Founder of the NW Spirits and Mixology Show, Kelly Kerbs of Drink Think.

Global trends are constantly evolving and the everyday cocktail list is transforming into a much more sophisticated beverage menu. It’s still important to feature the “classics,” but keeping up with the newer drinks and creations takes a little more skill and innovation- something the NW Spirits and Mixology Show will be sure to highlight.

With infused liquors, aromatics and the rise of the “speakeasy trend”, the modern-day bartender is able to pay homage to the days of Prohibition while bringing the public new and tasty ways to imbibe.

Come join us at the show for an insider’s look at the latest trends, products, features, and libations.
